Civil rights icon James Meredith fell at an event marking his 90th birthday outside the Mississippi Capitol, but he suffered no visible injuries and was resting comfortably at home later. Meredith was the first Black student to enroll at the University of Mississippi in 1962, and in 1966, he set out to promote Black voting rights and was shot and wounded on a highway.
