Miami Beach Struggles to Control Spring Break Violence and Chaos.

Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber stated that the city does not embrace the spring break atmosphere and tries to control the crowds with increased law enforcement. However, two fatal shootings occurred over the weekend, and Gelber noted that the crowds are too large to control effectively. The city imposed a curfew, but the commission rejected an additional curfew for this weekend, opting instead to give the city manager power to restrict alcohol sales at local liquor stores after 6 p.m. The mayor believes that public safety cannot be balanced with bar receipts.
