More than 100 congressional offices are already using artificial intelligence for tasks such as constituent correspondence and drafting legislation, with a desire to expand its use to ease staff workload and enhance constituent outreach. While lawmakers are eager to embrace AI, they are also cautious about potential cybersecurity risks and are working to establish early guardrails for its use. The House is expected to unveil a draft policy for AI use, based on the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s AI Risk Management Framework, while the Senate is in the early stages of experimentation with AI use.
