TikTok banned in Montana, first US state to do so.

Montana has become the first US state to ban TikTok, with a new law that will take effect on 1 January 2022. The law prohibits downloads of TikTok in the state and would fine any "entity" - an app store or TikTok - $10,000 per day for each time someone "is offered the ability" to access the social media platform or download the app. The move is among the most dramatic in a series of US escalations against TikTok, which is owned by Chinese tech company ByteDance, amid concerns that such links could pose a national security threat.
