TikTok takes legal action against Montana's app ban.

TikTok has filed a federal lawsuit against Montana over the state's new law banning the short-video app, arguing that the ban violates first amendment rights of both the company and its users. The law would fine any "entity" for each time someone "is offered the ability" to access the platform or download the app. Montana's governor, Greg Gianforte, has argued the law will "protect Montanans' personal and private data from being harvested by the Chinese Communist party". TikTok is arguing Montana "banishes TikTok, and just TikTok, from the state for purely punitive reasons, as evidenced by the state's decision to single out plaintiff for harsh penalties based on speculative concerns about TikTok's data security and content moderation practices".
