The Hawthorne and Morrison bridges in Portland will be closed to vehicles from 8 p.m. to midnight on July 4th due to the fireworks show hosted by the Waterfront Blues Festival. Motorists are advised to use alternate river crossings during this time. While the bridges will remain open to pedestrians and non-motorized vehicles, drivers are warned against stopping on any major roadways to view the fireworks, as it is dangerous and illegal. Sergeant Kevin Allen of the Portland Police Bureau emphasizes that stopping on bridges can cause accidents and impede traffic flow.
