Racially Charged Intruder Disrupts UNC Black Student Watch Party

An intruder disrupted a Love Island watch party hosted by UNC Black student organizations in Greenlaw Hall, shouting racial threats, brandishing an aerosol can and lighter, and throwing objects at attendees. The suspect fled but was detained by UNC Police 17 minutes later and hospitalized for mental distress; authorities plan to charge him with disorderly conduct, vandalism, damage to property and aggravated assault, and trespass him from campus. About 80–100 attendees, mostly Black first-year students, were present at the event co-hosted by several Black student groups. The university did not issue an Alert Carolina alert since there was no ongoing threat, drawing criticism from students who want improved safety communications. Black student groups plan to meet with administrators to prevent a recurrence, while organizers say the response should not increase police presence on campus.
