California couple nabbed in Mexico on Fresno teacher murder charges

A married California couple, Misty Gomez (32) and Antonio Garcia (40), were arrested in Mexico by U.S. Marshals and Clovis Police on murder charges linked to the Dec. 18, 2025 beating death of Clovis teacher Geoffrey Bernardi. Investigators say the attack wasn’t random and Gomez had dated Bernardi while married to Garcia. The pair were extradited to the United States last week, booked in Alameda County jail on $1 million bail, and face murder charges in Fresno County before a transfer to a Fresno jail. Gomez reportedly took her two children from a prior relationship to Mexico, and those children are now in Mexican custody after fading from Dinuba earlier this year.
