California wife killer handed 36-to-life sentence after fleeing to Mexico

Yolanda Marodi, who previously served about a decade for voluntary manslaughter of an ex-partner, was sentenced to 36 years to life for the February 17, 2025 stabbing death of her wife, Rebecca Marodi, a Cal Fire captain, in Ramona. Prosecutors say the couple’s deteriorating marriage followed Rebecca’s declaration that she planned to end it; security footage from their home captured the attack as Marodi fled to Mexico and was later captured in Mexicali. Marodi had pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the case last month.
