Crown Heights Stabbings Cast Shadow Over West Indian Day Parade Kickoff

Five people were stabbed or slashed in Crown Heights before the West Indian Day Parade kicked off, including a 32-year-old and a 23-year-old stabbed in the neck, a 36-year-old stabbed in the face, and a 20-year-old slashed in the chin near Carroll Street and Utica Avenue; a separate 25-year-old was slashed near Eastern Parkway and Nostrand Avenue. All victims were transported to hospitals and listed as stable, with no arrests reported. Thousands of NYPD officers will be deployed for the event, which is scheduled to shut down at 5:30 p.m. due to violence in past years.
