Upstate New York glider collision leaves one dead, one survivor

Two solo gliders collided in Saratoga County, near Edinburg, NY, on Friday afternoon. One pilot was killed and the other survived, landing safely at Plateau Sky Ranch Airport. Debris was found in a remote area as responders handled the scene; the FAA identified the aircraft as a Schempp-Hirth Ventus and a Schleicher AS24. The National Transportation Safety Board will lead the investigation, with the FAA assisting; the deceased pilot’s identity has not been released.
