Tragic Pursuit: Vermont Officer Killed in Crash with Suspect

A 19-year-old Vermont police officer, Jessica Ebbighausen, was killed in a crash during a high-speed chase with a burglary suspect. The suspect, Tate Rheaume, crashed his truck into two police cruisers, resulting in the death of Officer Ebbighausen and injuries to two other officers. Rheaume is facing charges of grossly negligent operation and attempting to elude, with additional charges possible. The investigation revealed that neither Officer Ebbighausen nor Officer Caravaggio were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision. Ebbighausen, who had dreamed of becoming a police officer since she was nine years old, becomes the 29th Vermont officer to die in the line of duty.
