Texas teens arrested after high school swimmer drowns, authorities say evidence was discarded

Two teens, 19-year-old Lucas Roper and a 17-year-old juvenile, were arrested July 9 in Dallas County on tampering-with-physical-evidence charges tied to the April drowning of 18-year-old Daniel Erving, a Dallas-area high school swimmer. Investigators say Erving died after jumping from a railroad bridge into Lake Ray Hubbard and that his clothing was discarded and his cellphone deleted to hide involvement. The death was ruled an accidental drowning, and the case remains under investigation with Dallas police leading and Rowlett police assisting; Erving’s family has urged homicide charges.
