A 38-year-old surfer from South Carolina was bitten by a shark near the inlet in New Smyrna Beach. The surfer fell from his board and suffered a non-life-threatening bite to the top of his cheek, near his right eye. This is the seventh shark bite in Volusia County in 2023.
