Iran Blockade Expands as 20+ U.S. Warships Enforce CENTCOM; Nimitz Makes Rio Stop

More than 20 U.S. Navy warships, including two carrier strike groups, are enforcing Iran’s blockade in CENTCOM’s area, with CENTCOM reporting 61 commercial vessels redirected and four disabled. Carrier groups Ford and George H.W. Bush are active in the region, while the Ford CSG heads toward Norfolk and George H.W. Bush remains deployed in the Arabian Sea. USS Nimitz is anchored in Rio de Janeiro for a liberty stop during its circumnavigation en route to Norfolk, and other carriers such as Dwight D. Eisenhower, George Washington, and Theodore Roosevelt are training or repositioning to bolster future operations; Boxer and Tripoli ARGs are positioned to support CENTCOM missions when announced.
