"Google AI Outperforms Human Doctors in Bedside Manner and Diagnoses with AMIE Research System"

Google's large language model-based chatbot, Articulate Medical Intelligence Explorer (AMIE), outperformed board-certified primary-care physicians in diagnosing respiratory and cardiovascular conditions and displayed higher empathy during medical interviews with simulated patients. Although still experimental and not tested on real patients, the chatbot's potential role in democratizing healthcare is being explored. Challenges include ensuring fairness and privacy in its use, as well as the need for further studies to evaluate potential biases and ethical requirements for testing with real patients.
