Nepal legspinner Sandeep Lamichhane has been sentenced to eight years in jail and fined Rs 300,000 for raping an 18-year-old woman, with the court also ordering him to pay Rs 200,000 in compensation to the victim. His lawyer plans to appeal the decision in a higher court. Lamichhane had been suspended by the Cricket Association of Nepal last year after an arrest warrant was issued against him, and he was subsequently taken into custody upon returning to Kathmandu. Despite protests and controversy, he continued to play for Nepal, but was not considered for the squad in early 2023.
