Texas A&M Honors 25th Anniversary of Bonfire Tragedy

Texas A&M University is commemorating the 25th anniversary of the 1999 bonfire tragedy that killed 12 people and injured dozens when a massive log stack collapsed. The university will hold a remembrance ceremony at the site of the collapse, but has decided not to revive the bonfire tradition on campus, despite recommendations to do so with professional oversight. The bonfire, once a cherished tradition symbolizing the school's rivalry with the University of Texas, was discontinued as an official event after the incident. Students continue to organize unofficial off-campus bonfires.
