Chicago Pope Leo XIV Receives Custom White Sox Pope Hat After Sox Visit
TL;DR
Pope Leo XIV, Chicago-born pontiff and famous White Sox devotee, was gifted a refined version of the team’s pope hat after meeting Rev. Tom McCarthy in Vatican City; the gift box also included Sox memorabilia and a note from owner Jerry Reinsdorf. The gesture followed a White Sox game where they lost 5-4 to the Reds, and McCarthy described the pope’s enjoyment and the broader message of sports building community across faiths and neighborhoods.
