Freshman Ball State football player Gavin Yates-Lyons dies in Tallahassee shooting

Gavin Yates-Lyons, an 18-year-old Ball State football freshman defensive back, died after being caught in the crossfire of a shooting at an unsanctioned party in a Tallahassee parking garage; he had recently enrolled after graduating high school early and had finished spring practice. The incident left two other victims injured; the suspect(s) remain at large and the investigation is ongoing. A GoFundMe was created for his family, and Yates-Lyons had become an organ donor. Ball State mourned his loss.
