"Sahith Theegala Takes Lead, Morikawa in Pursuit After Round 1 at The Sentry 2024"
TL;DR
At the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii, Collin Morikawa, with a personal connection to Maui, hit an emotional opening tee shot and carded a strong round with a 65. However, Sahith Theegala stole the lead with a 9-under 64, featuring a run of six consecutive birdies on the back nine. The field at Kapalua was the largest ever due to a new qualification criteria, and the Plantation course's usual windy defense was absent, leading to low scores across the board.
