Games Workshop Reveals New Adeptus Custodes Datasheets for Warhammer 40,000
Games Workshop has released the first official datasheets for the Adeptus Custodes in Warhammer 40,000, featuring significantly boosted stats for the Ten Thousand. The new Codex emphasizes high durability and close combat prowess, with basic infantry now possessing Toughness 7 and 5 Wounds. To balance this power, squad sizes are strictly limited to three models, ensuring each unit acts as a distinct hero. Key figures like Captain-General Trajann Valoris and Telemon Heavy Dreadnoughts feature enhanced abilities, while the army rule 'Martial Ka'tah' has been expanded.
Key points
- Basic Custodian Guard infantry now have Toughness 7 and 5 Wounds, matching their lore as elite champions.
- Squad sizes are capped at three models to maintain balance, forcing players to treat each unit as a unique hero.
- Captain-General Trajann Valoris features a 'Moment Shackle' ability for extra attacks and an aura that grants re-rolls to nearby units.
- Telemon Heavy Dreadnoughts boast Toughness 11, 14 Wounds, and powerful weapons like the arachnus storm cannon and adrathic desolator.
- The 'Martial Ka'tah' ability, previously an army rule, has been expanded and upgraded in the new Codex.
Background
This release follows a major autumn preview in September 2026 that introduced Aquilon Terminators and new kits for the Adeptus Custodes. The new datasheets are part of a broader expansion for the faction across Warhammer 40,000 and The Horus Heresy, aligning with recent updates for other Imperial forces like the Space Marines.
Why it matters
The new datasheets significantly alter the gameplay balance for the Adeptus Custodes, making them more resilient and lethal in close combat while restricting their numbers. This shift emphasizes quality over quantity, requiring players to rely on individual hero units rather than large squads, which could impact competitive play and army building strategies in the 41st Millennium setting.
What to watch
Further rules reveals for the 'Martial Ka'tah' ability are expected in the coming days, as indicated by the source. The full Codex: Adeptus Custodes is anticipated to be released alongside the new models and kits previewed in September.
