The company blamed a “series of mistakes,” including miscommunication with the German QA team, inconsistent font rendering, and being understaffed during a bank holiday, with the runes reportedly displayed in a way that could be tied to Nazi imagery (some platforms rendered the rune differently). A GOG representative on Reddit acknowledged the problematic pairing of runes and said the material was not sent to the German community. Even the game’s developers expressed surprise at the inclusion and the situation has sparked questions about why it went to other regions and why the symbol was doubled.
