Half-Life 2 Breaks Player Record 20 Years On, Surpassing 60,000 Concurrent Users
TL;DR
Half-Life 2 has set a new record for concurrent players on Steam, reaching 64,085 players during its 20th anniversary celebration, surpassing its previous peak of around 16,000. The surge was driven by Valve's temporary free giveaway of the game, along with the addition of expansions, new developer commentary, and enhanced features. A documentary on the game's development, including the cancelled Episode 3, was also released.
