Nintendo's Controversial Guidelines Spark Outrage in Smash Ultimate Community

Nintendo has released strict new guidelines for smaller-scale competitive tournaments, requiring organizers to apply for an official license if they exceed certain limits. These "community tournaments" must have no more than 200 participants for in-person events and 300 for online tournaments. Ticket prices and entry fees are capped, and money raised must not exceed the costs of organizing the tournament and prize money. Additional restrictions include prohibiting the sale of food and drink at venues with spectators and limiting the use of Nintendo game names in tournament titles. Nintendo's relationship with the competitive tournament scene has been strained, as seen in the fallout with the unlicensed Smash World Tour last year.
