TL;DR

The opening quote in the 2010 game Alan Wake was sold to developer Remedy by Stephen King for just $1. The quote, which appears in the game's intro, comes from a 2008 Entertainment Weekly essay in which King discusses the nature of horror. Remedy creative director Sam Lake called the price "very generous." The game, which pays homage to King's work, has recently been remastered and a sequel is set to release on October 17.
