Xbox Games Studio boss Matt Booty has said that if one of its studios expressed a desire to develop a Halo game, it would pursue it, but it's unlikely that Xbox would dictate it from the top. The question arose after Microsoft announced its plans to acquire Activision Blizzard, leading fans to speculate about a Halo game possibly being developed by a Call of Duty studio. However, even if one of Activision's studios were interested in taking on the challenge of Halo, Microsoft faces legal hurdles in the US and UK as it attempts to close the $68.7 billion acquisition deal.
