Background

Xbox Free Play Days is a recurring weekly event offering free access to games. The previous weekend (October 2-4) featured five Ubisoft titles, including Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Far Cry 6, available to all Xbox users without Game Pass. The September 24-27 event included PGA Tour 2K25 and The Division 2 for all users, and The Escapists 2 and Young Suns for Game Pass members. ARC Raiders had a full unrestricted trial from October 8 to 12, coinciding with the 'Frozen Trail' update, following a period where the game lost its initial launch audience.

How outlets are covering it

Xbox Wire emphasizes the breadth of the lineup, highlighting seven titles and the distinction between Game Pass and non-Game Pass access. T3 focuses on the previous week's Ubisoft offerings, noting that five AAA games were free without Game Pass, and highlights the value of the discounts. Evrim Ağacı provides a broader context of October's new releases, including Gears of War: E-Day and KINGDOM HEARTS Collection, but does not detail the Free Play Days lineup as specifically as Xbox Wire. The sources agree on the dates and the games, but differ in emphasis, with Xbox Wire providing the most detailed breakdown of the current event.

Why it matters

Free Play Days provides a low-risk way for players to try new games, especially titles with significant discounts. The inclusion of ARC Raiders for all users, without Game Pass, is notable given the game's recent struggles to retain its audience. The event also highlights the value of Game Pass membership, with significant discounts for purchasing games after the trial period.

What to watch

The Free Play Days event ends on October 11, 2026. Players who purchase the games during the event can retain their progress and achievements. Xbox is expected to announce the next Free Play Days lineup in the coming weeks.
