Apple's Mac Pro and M2 Ultra face market disappointment.

The new Apple Silicon Mac Pro, priced at $6999, misses the mark for most of the target market due to the lack of upgradeable RAM and support for Radeon PCI-E video cards. The M2 Ultra processor in the core Apple Silicon Mac Pro delivers around 185,000 on Geekbench 6, which is far lower than the Radeon RX 6900XT available at retail. The lack of PCI-E GPU support is the killing factor for the new Mac Pro for professionals in the music industry, science, and media production. There are better options available, such as the Sonnet rack-mount for a Mac Studio, which allows for a PCI-E card and comes in well under the price of the core Mac Pro.
