Beeper, a messaging platform founded by Eric Migicovsky, has launched Beeper Mini, a $2/month Android app that serves as a standalone iMessage client. The app allows Android users to access iMessage by reverse-engineering Apple's system and using a one-time exchange of keys sent through SMS. However, just two days after its launch, Beeper Mini stopped working as Apple took steps to block techniques that exploit fake credentials to gain access to iMessage. Apple stated that these techniques posed significant risks to user security and privacy. While many people wish Apple would release an iMessage client for Android, the company has chosen to keep iMessage exclusive to Apple devices.
