A long-lost Final Fantasy VII mobile spin-off, Dirge of Cerberus: Lost Episode, has been recovered and preserved after its authentication servers went offline in 2018. Preservationist Yuvi decrypted encrypted SD-card data using custom OpenCL tools and a massive 90-GPU server farm (about $900), making the title playable again and paving the way for a fan translation. The recovery coincides with director Naoki Hamaguchi confirming that spin-offs like Dirge of Cerberus will be included in Final Fantasy VII Revelation, signaling a broader revival of the Compilation universe.
