On the 20th anniversary of Mother 3’s Japan debut, Nintendo has never released the RPG in the West, a decision rooted in a lengthy development cycle, shifting DS-focused resources, and EarthBound’s mixed U.S. reception; a fan translation circulated unofficially and gained traction, and while many fans argue the market is larger today, Nintendo has not provided an official Western localization.
The Princess Crown English patch, a long-running fan translation led by eadmaster and built on work by SamIAm and CyberWarriorX, is officially dead after the original developers announced they would no longer continue. SamIAm and CyberWarriorX stated they’d given up on the project, and a SHIRO Discord post confirms there will be no final English localization, ending years of back-and-forth and angst over the patch.
Team Cherry released a new patch for Hollow Knight: Silksong on PC, with PS5 and PS4 versions coming soon, featuring bug fixes and the official addition of a fan-made Simplified Chinese translation, along with various gameplay improvements.
A fan translation has been released for the 1993 SNES fighting game Battle Master: Kyūkyoku no Senshitachi, making it accessible in English for the first time after 32 years, thanks to a team of hackers and translators.
