Reddit's API pricing changes lead to Apollo and subreddit shutdowns.

Apollo, the popular third-party app for Reddit, will shut down on June 30 due to the $20 million API bill Reddit imposed on it. Reddit's new pricing plan charges $12,000 for 50 million API requests, while similar social media photo site Imgur charges $166 for the same amount. Apollo developer Christian Selig says the costs and timelines are too much to overcome, and even if users were willing to pay, the one-month notice is not feasible for developers. Almost 1,500 subreddits plan to "go dark" on June 12 to protest the high API prices.
