Sonos Reframes Itself as an AI-Driven Audio Platform with a New App and Gear

Sonos announced Sonos 27, an AI-enabled app and an “audio operating system” featuring generative AI, voice agents, and customizable tasks (Custom Agents) with Model Context Protocol compatibility. The update is opt-in and limited to newer hardware with the S2 app, while older devices and the S1 app won’t receive these AI features. Alongside the software, Sonos unveiled the Beam Ultra soundbar and Ace Ultra wireless headphones that integrate with Sonos Fabric for multi-room syncing and features like portable surround and Headphone Linking. System-health views and updated navigation aim to improve usability, but upgrade paths for legacy products remain to be detailed.
