3M has agreed to pay up to $10.3 billion over 13 years to settle lawsuits claiming that toxic "forever chemicals" known as PFAS contaminated water supplies in the US. The settlement comes after 3M faced thousands of lawsuits over the last two decades alleging that the chemicals caused cancer, developmental defects, and other health problems. Last year, 3M said it would stop producing the controversial chemicals by the end of 2025. The proposed settlement is not an admission of liability, and 3M's stock rose by more than 5% in after-hours trading after the announcement.
