Federal Investigation Launched into Tesla's Secret 'Glass House' Project

Federal prosecutors and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) are investigating Tesla's use of funds for a secret project known as "Project 42," which involves the construction of a large glass structure near Tesla's Austin headquarters. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York and the SEC are seeking information on the benefits paid to CEO Elon Musk, the project's cost, and its purpose. Tesla is also facing separate investigations from the DOJ and SEC regarding its Autopilot system. This comes after a previous settlement with the SEC in 2018 over Musk's misleading tweet about taking Tesla private.
