Families of victims of the racially motivated mass shooting at a Tops grocery store in Buffalo, NY, have filed a lawsuit against the parents of the gunman, online platforms, and a body armor manufacturer, alleging that the social media platforms’ algorithms inspired the attack. The gunman, Payton Gendron, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after pleading guilty to murder charges. The shooting, which killed 10 people, mostly Black, and injured three, has prompted calls for reform and investment in East Buffalo, where most Blacks live and conditions are getting worse.
