The mother claimed the gun was secured with a trigger lock, but investigators found no evidence of such a safety device. The mother had previously pleaded guilty to using marijuana while possessing a firearm. The teacher has filed a lawsuit seeking $40 million in damages from school officials, alleging gross negligence.
