Politician Shot in Face in Madrid: Gunman Escapes on Motorbike

Alejandro Vidal-Quadras, former leader of Spain's Popular Party in the Catalan region and a member of the European Parliament, was shot in the face in Madrid. The 78-year-old politician was walking alone when two individuals on a motorbike approached him. The assailant, wearing a helmet, shot Vidal-Quadras before fleeing the scene. He was conscious when taken to the hospital, and the bullet reportedly pierced his jaw. Vidal-Quadras had previously left the far-right Vox party after a failed attempt to win a seat in the European Parliament in 2014.
