Tragic Infant Overdose at Bronx Daycare Leads to Murder Charges

A daycare owner in New York City has been charged with depraved indifference murder and drug charges after a one-year-old infant died from apparent fentanyl poisoning while under her care. Three other children also showed signs of being sickened by the synthetic opioid. The daycare owner, Grei Mendez, and one of her tenants, Carlisto Acevedo Brito, were arrested and face additional charges of assault and child endangerment. Police found a kilo press, commonly used for packaging drugs, during a search of the daycare. The incident highlights the ongoing opioid crisis and the dangers it poses, particularly to children.
