The leader of UK actors union Equity, Paul Fleming, has expressed support for the ongoing SAG-AFTRA actors strike in the US, stating that the UK will not be used as a backdoor to undermine the dispute. While UK actors working under an Equity contract are legally obliged to continue working, Fleming emphasized that the impact of the strike on access to American talent affects the entire global industry. Equity's demands for change, including a 15% pay rise and provisions on AI, are broadly identical to SAG's, as negotiations for the union's TV and film contract with UK producer trade body Pact and broadcasters are set to begin.
