Investigation underway into hate crime incident targeting Arab Muslim student at Stanford University

Stanford University is investigating at least five possible hate crime incidents, including a hit-and-run involving an Arab Muslim student. The student reported that the driver intentionally struck them and shouted derogatory remarks before fleeing the scene. The California Highway Patrol is treating the incident as a potential hate crime. The university has condemned the violence and urged anyone with information to come forward. The incidents, which began in mid-October, also include instances of spitting at a student near a Palestinian display, running over a tote bag belonging to Arab, Muslim, and/or Palestinian students, and the removal of a mezuza from a Jewish student's residence. The Council on American-Islamic Relations has called for action against growing Islamophobia and hatred in the community.
