Abortion Pill Availability and Restrictions: Recent Developments.

A federal appeals court has ruled that the abortion pill, mifepristone, can remain available but has imposed temporary restrictions, including blocking the drug from being sent to patients through the mail and rolling back other steps the FDA had taken to ease access. The court said that the FDA's approval of mifepristone in 2000 could stand, but the plaintiffs could challenge the steps the FDA took beginning in 2016 that lifted restrictions and made it easier for more patients to have access to the pill. The Justice Department is likely to appeal the order to the Supreme Court.
