AstraZeneca Seeks FDA Approval for Self-Administered Flu Vaccine at Home

AstraZeneca has submitted a supplemental license application to the FDA, requesting approval for its nasal flu vaccine, FluMist, to be self-administered at home. If approved, this would make FluMist the first ever self-administered vaccine. The application seeks approval for use in ages 2-49, with adults 18 and older able to self-administer the single-use nasal syringe and administer the vaccine to those aged 2-17. AstraZeneca expects a decision from the FDA by Q1 2024. The move is driven by lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic and aims to address low flu vaccine uptake.
