CDC Advisers Recommend RSV Vaccines for Seniors and Adults 60+

A panel of advisers to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) voted in support of the first vaccines to guard against respiratory illness RSV for older adults aged 60 and over. The panel's vote followed FDA vaccine approvals earlier this year for GSK's Arexvy and Pfizer's Abrysvo. The CDC panel's recommendations ultimately govern federal requirements on insurance coverage of vaccinations. The panel called for "shared clinical decision-making" between doctors and patients to decide whether the individual benefits outweigh the risks. Vaccine makers are still studying when seniors might need to come back for a booster dose of RSV vaccine in the coming years.
