CDC Urges Urgent Boost in Vaccine Coverage as Winter Virus Activity Rises

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a health alert urging Americans to boost their vaccination rates against Covid-19, the flu, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) as winter virus activity increases. The CDC warned that low vaccination rates could strain healthcare systems and called on doctors to encourage immediate vaccination. Hospitalizations have increased for influenza, Covid-19, and RSV, with the highest respiratory disease activity in the southern half of the US. Only 17.2% of adults have received the updated Covid-19 shot, while 40% have received this year's flu shot. Rising illnesses among children, including cases of a rare Covid-related complication called MIS-C, have also been reported. The CDC recommends flu and Covid-19 vaccines for everyone aged 6 months and older, with additional RSV vaccines available for older adults and pregnant women.
