COVID-19 Hospitalizations: Older Adults Account for Majority

Older adults aged 65 and above accounted for nearly two-thirds of COVID-19-associated hospitalizations and in-hospital deaths between January and August 2023, according to a report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Hospitalization rates for this age group were significantly higher compared to younger adults, with those aged 85 and older having the highest rate. However, only 23.6% of older adults had received the updated booster shot, highlighting the importance of vaccination. The report emphasized the elevated risk faced by senior citizens and the need for preventive measures, including vaccination and early treatment.
