FDA approves world's first RSV vaccine after six decades in the making.

The US FDA has approved GSK's vaccine against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) for people aged 60 and above, making it the first RSV vaccine to gain approval anywhere in the world. RSV can be deadly for older people, with approximately 6,000 to 10,000 adults in the US who are 65 years and older dying from it each year. GSK's vaccine, to be sold as Arexvy, reduced the risk of people 60 and older developing lower respiratory tract disease from RSV by 82.6% and the risk of developing severe disease by 94.1%. Pfizer and Moderna also have RSV vaccines in the pipeline.
