Hearing aids: A powerful tool in reducing dementia risk

A new study published in The Lancet found that getting hearing aids could reduce the risk of cognitive decline, including dementia, by nearly 50%. Previous research has established that hearing loss is a significant risk factor for developing dementia, but this study is the first randomized control study to investigate whether hearing aids can mitigate the risk. The study followed over 3,000 participants for three years and found that while hearing aids did not reduce cognitive decline in the total group, they significantly reduced cognitive decline by 48% in the older group at higher risk.
