Hearing Aids: A Promising Solution for Reducing Dementia Risk

New research published in the Lancet suggests that the use of hearing aids can reduce the risk of cognitive decline by nearly half for older adults at greater risk for dementia. The study found that hearing intervention, including counseling with an audiologist and the use of hearing aids, had a significant impact on reducing cognitive decline in adults with risk factors such as elevated blood pressure, diabetes, lower education and income, and living alone. Age-related hearing loss is known to increase the risk of dementia, and this study highlights the importance of addressing hearing loss as a potential preventive measure for cognitive decline.
